Vision Well IP Cameras Are Not Directly Compatible with CameraFTP Cloud Service

Introduction

Vision Well is a popular IP camera manufacturer. Their IP cameras don't support open standards such as FTP, SMTP, RTSP or ONVIF. Therefore, they are locked in with their own cloud service. If you buy their IP cameras, most likely you also need to order their cloud service - Vicohome.

To use the camera, you must download the Vicohome app, sign up for an account, then add your camera to Vicohome. It has a few disadvantages:
(1) The camera is locked in with a 3rd party cloud service provider named Vicohome. There is little information about Vicohome or Vision Well, where they are based and the relationship between Vision Well and Vicohome.
(2) Vicohome only offers one cloud-recording plan; it only offers motion-triggered recording and will keep your footage for 30 days. It is unclear about the video resolution and fps.

2. Other Cloud Recording Options

There are other options:
(1) Order an open-standard based (non-proprietary) IP camera;
(2) Use an old phone/tablet/webcam as an IP Camera or baby/pet monitor, or use a PC as a CCTV NVR system.

You can record footage to a local device or to a cloud service of your own choice, such as CameraFTP.

With CameraFTP VSS software, if you have an old or spare PC, you can save the cost of buying an expensive NVR; otherwise, you can buy a low-end laptop/PC for less than $300. It can support many IP cameras and webcams.

Appendix 1: CameraFTP Viewer

If you have a camera using CameraFTP's cloud service, then you can easily view your camera from anywhere with CameraFTP Viewer. You can log in to CameraFTP.com website and use the browser-based viewer, or use CameraFTP Viewer app for iOS, Android and Windows. All viewer apps support 2-way live video & audio viewing / calling.

If you use CameraFTP VSS and need to make changes to the recording parameters, you can open VSS's main window, move your mouse on top of the camera live view, then click the Edit icon in the popup toolbar. You can:
- Select a different source video stream;
- Bind the camera with a different camera license (if you ordered a subscription);
- Edit motion detection settings;
- Set recording schedules.
