Introduction

Galayou (Wansview) is a popular IP camera and NVR device manufacturer. Some of their IP cameras support FTP and SMTP. But some newer models, esp. the indoor models, don't support FTP/SMTP based uploading. These cameras still support ONVIF/RTSP; so they are compatible with CameraFTP VSS software. VSS can use a PC as a powerful CCTV NVR system. It can display the live camera videos on the PC screen, while also recording the footage to the cloud or local drive.

The main features include:

  • - High resolution 2 to 3MP video at 20 fps.
  • - Supports standard protocols like RTSP and ONVIF; Compatible with CameraFTP VSS software.

Why use CameraFTP VSS with Galayou cameras?

CameraFTP is a leading cloud recording service provider based in Silicon Valley. It has offered very broad cloud recording and monitoring features for over a decade. CameraFTP offers the most flexible service plans, including: Video Recording, Image Recording, Timelapse Recording and Local Recording plans. Users can customize a plan based on their budget and quality requirements.

Some Galayou IP cameras do not support FTP/SMTP and cannot upload footage to the CameraFTP cloud directly. However, CameraFTP VSS software can connect to the cameras' video streams, display live videos on the PC screen, while recording footage to the cloud and/or local disk. In addition, It offers much better video recording options. It supports popular video resolutions like 720P and 1080P; it also supports frame rates from 1 to 20fps.

Note: If you use VSS with your IP camera, then don't configure the camera to upload to CameraFTP directly (even if it can be configured that way)

Disclaimer: The information provided in this document is based on our knowledge of the model Galayou G7 IP Camera. We believe the information is also applicable to Galayou G2, G6 and Y4, etc.

The information may not be accurate or up-to-date. Users shall contact the manufacturer for all camera-related issues and contact us for CameraFTP-related (CameraFTP cloud service / CameraFTP VSS) issues.

Step 1: Use the Wansview Cloud mobile app to enable ONVIF

The camera can only be configured with a smartphone. You need to download the "Wansview Cloud" mobile app for Android or iOS. After you install the mobile app, follow the instructions in the app (or the product manual) to add the camera to the app.

You also need a PC/laptop connected to the same local network. Install CameraFTP VSS on the computer.

After you add the camera to the Wansview Cloud app, you will see the following screen:

Tap the Settings icon as shown in the above screen, it will display the Settings screen as follows:

Tap "Local Application", it will display the Local Application Settings.

Tap ONVIF and enable it. ONVIF is a standard IP camera protocol that allows the camera to be managed/connected from a 3rd party program such as CameraFTP VSS.

After you enable ONVIF, tap "Local Account", then add a local camera user account as follows:

With the camera's RTSP and ONVIF protocols enabled, now you can use CameraFTP VSS to connect to the camera's live video stream and record the footage.

2. Use CameraFTP VSS with Galayou IP Cameras / DVRs

CameraFTP VSS software can use a PC as a powerful CCTV NVR system. It can display live camera videos on your PC screen, while also recording the video/image to the cloud and/or the local disk. Using CameraFTP VSS with a Galayou IP Camera is very easy. CameraFTP VSS supports Image Recording, Video Recording, Timelapse Recording and Local Recording at almost any recording parameters.

If you have an old or spare PC, you can save the cost of buying an expensive NVR; otherwise, you can buy a low-end laptop/PC for less than $300. It can support many IP cameras and webcams.

Launch CameraFTP VSS software on your PC/laptop, click Add to add a camera, then click IP Camera.

Then click "Find IP Cameras in Local Network" to find IP cameras in your local network. VSS can find the IP Camera(s) very quickly with the ONVIF protocol. Please see the screenshot below:

As you can see, VSS displays a list of devices/cameras found in your local network. The displayed camera names may not be clear, as shown in the above screenshot. If VSS found multiple cameras/devices and you cannot tell which one is the correct IP camera, you can use the following method: (1) turn off the camera, then use VSS to search the local network; record the device list; (2) turn on the camera, use VSS to search the local network again. The new device in the search result is the correct camera.

Select the correct Galayou IP camera, then click Next. CameraFTP VSS will display a login dialog. Please enter the device's Local Account username and password to log in. The username and password is what we created in Step 1 using the Wansview Cloud mobile app.

Click Next. CameraFTP VSS will search the camera's video stream URLs using ONVIF. It will display the result as follows:

It found two RTSP video URLs. The first one is the high-resolution Main Stream video URL, the second one is the low-resolution Sub Stream video URL. If you ordered a low resolution (<=640x480) video recording plan, then select the second URL. Otherwise, select the first URL. Selecting the first URL will use more CPU time and local network bandwidth. If the camera or PC uses Wi-Fi, please make sure your Wi-Fi connection is fast and reliabe.

The remaining steps are standard. Just click Next and follow the wizard to finish adding the camera. The camera will be added to VSS as follows:

Appendix 1: Make Changes; Setup VSS with Galayou NVR; CameraFTP Viewer

You are all done!

If you need to make changes, you can open VSS's main window, move your mouse on top of the camera live view, then click the Edit icon in the popup toolbar. You can:
- Select a different source video stream;
- Bind the camera with a different camera license (if you ordered a subscription);
- Edit motion detection settings;
- Set recording schedules.

If you use VSS with a Galayou NVR, then you need to repeat the process of adding cameras in VSS software. Each time, you will select the same NVR device. When adding a new camera in this case, VSS will display a warning message that the camera has been added. You can ignore the message and continue adding the camera; then, you must select a video stream of a different camera (DVR channel). If the NVR/DVR has N channels (cameras), then it has at least N video streams.

After a camera(s) is added, it will take about 1 minute for VSS to upload the first video or image. However, you can view the live video (with audio) immediately from anywhere.

You can use the browser-based viewer by logging in to www.cameraftp.com or download CameraFTP Viewer App for iOS, Android and Windows. All viewers support live view and playback from anywhere. Moreover, they support video-calling to the camera.
